Santiago Abajo sits at the foothills of the Gracias A Dios mountain range between the two municipalities of La Masica and San Francisco. There are 28 families in this small village of which 24 have been able to attain both water and electricity. The remaining 4 however, are left on their own, too far from any adjacent villages and long forgotten amongst the fight of to which municipality they pertain. They have no water, no latrines and no electricity. The wives and children have to make the 3 km walk each day to the contaminated river, where they bathe and get their drinking water. They have no means to boil this water and therefore are often sick from water borne illnesses. The following is a plan that will bring these 4 families the essentials they need- running potable water, electricity, a latrine and a wood burning stove. The material costs are listed below.
